Fibromyalgia and Allodynia Pain

Allodynia is a symptom of fibromyalgia where you get pain from something that others don’t feel pain from. For example, brushing your hair can be painful to allodynia sufferers and even a pinch can be agony.

It makes you ultra sensitive to anything your body touches. I find clothing labels can hurt more than itch and even a poke can lead to that part of my body hurting for days. Even having my hair up hurts and feels like it’s pulling at my scalp.

I sometimes say ‘that hurts’ when someone does something that causes me pain, but because it doesn’t hurt them, they think I’m joking and carry on.

It’s sad as I do want to play games like tag and have pinching contests etc. But unfortunately I usually end up stopping playing or shout at them when they don’t take my pain seriously.

It can be really upsetting to me and to my friends who don’t realise they have hurt me until it’s too late. Of course I dont take it personally. My body is hypersensitive and reacts differently. I try to ignore it and carry on and I never hold it against anyone.

It is just one of the many symptoms we have to put up with on a daily basis.
