Sometimes life gets so busy you don’t have a chance to take a minute for yourself; to put yourself first and think about your needs and wants.
Other people become the priority, and you push yourself too far without realising.
Sometimes you just have to say no and take some ‘Me’ time. Take a step back from everything and assess how you are feeling.
You might need a few days of rest or reassess your goals and refocus your mind to reach where you want to be.
You can get lost in the bubble of others, become stuck in their worlds and lose touch with your own life.
To be happy, you need to know yourself and what makes you happy. Making other people happy can help but living with chronic illness means that taking time for others takes it out of us.
So please, when you feel like things are getting too much, take a step back, cancel plans if you don’t want to go. Try not to feel guilty. You deserve to put yourself first.
You are not a bad friend for saying no. If they are a good friend they will understand.
‘Me’ time means different things to different people. It may just be a few hours set aside every now and then or days where you enjoy your own company.
Whatever it means to you, make sure you put yourself first sometimes. It is hard to do, especially if you always want to be there for everyone else, but you cannot help others if you cannot help yourself.
